I recognize that liking Mogwai hasn’t been cool for, oh, 9-10 years or so, but I would be totally OK if more bands sounded like them.  They weren’t thin like Slint, and they weren’t grandiose like GY!BE, but they still made really slow-burning, loud, melodic guitar rock.  If our indie bands are going to be pretentious and juvenile, why must they be either tweely earnest or blue-collarly retro?  Why can’t they instead evoke that particular feeling of driving mournfully around the suburbs at night in between rewatching The Crow?  Also, they had a sense of humor despite being very serious!  That is a balance I like, and would like to see more of.
