Beyoncé - Love on Top (Live at the 2011 VMAs)

  1. Because of this performance, I subconsciously think that “Love on Top” got Beyoncé pregnant. I don’t mean that the song was playing when she conceived, or when she gave birth. I mean that the act of singing the song itself is what caused her to get pregnant. I know that’s not true, but I don’t think it’s entirely untrue, either.
  2. There is a parallel universe in which Beyoncé has never stopped singing “Love on Top.” The key changes at the end never fade out but keep going again and again and again, repeating the chorus, rotating around the circle of fifths - or, even better, getting higher and higher stepwise, ascending up chromatically to a pitch we are no longer able to hear. It beams its way out into the galaxy, bright and clear, Beyoncé ascending planes of existence as she ascends in pitch until she becomes a vibration among the stars, pure energy, a shuddering light.
