There you have it, kids. The “Tragedy of the Commons” is—say it with me—privatization! 

Yeah, it wasn’t until I recently sought to re-verify my understanding of the TOTC (i.e. “read the Wikipedia entry on it”) that I realized people thought it was in favor of strong, individual private property rights! The way I was taught it - at Oberlin, admittedly, but still - was that it was a case for the commons to be strongly regulated so that those individual wellness-maximization strategies wouldn’t deplete our common resources.
