The high insufferable period of indie games

“All the cows were whisked away. And all that was left were the little shadows where they had been standing. But the game continued to run. And, in fact, the game continues to run to this day. And there are still people clicking on the spot where a cow used to be.”

An inspiring story for lots of reasons.

(This reminds me of some of the indie band wheezes that were current in the 90s - WE WILL PROVE THE SHALLOWNESS OF POP BY BEING IN A SATIRICAL POP BAND! - there was one run by a mate of the dude from The Baffler. They were always excruciating because, surprise surprise, the indie bands didn’t have the chops, inclination, direction of talent, looks etc to pull it off. The Cow Clicker story offers a look at what might have happened if they had. One of the things I find exciting & scary about online culture is the way it can almost totally elide and erase the original motives of any artistic gesture, like a version of pop where every song gets used like “Born In The USA”)
