And people say Seattleites are passive-aggressive
Co-op cashier: Do you need a sack for that? Me: Yeah, and plastic, please. Co-op cashier: Oh, I love it when people pick plastic! Me: Really? Why? Co-op cashier: I just like rooting for the underdog, you know? People just decided that paper was better than plastic, but it’s never really been settled. Me: Eh, I’m really just lazy.

So ask me a question, if you’d like.
That’s okay, sounds like you’re busy.
I’m watching the Big Bang Theory to see if they bring up any politicians, so I can multitask here a bit.

Man, I know I’ve said this before (maybe not on here?), but The Office (US) is to The Office (UK) as Parks and Rec is to The Thick of It. While The Thick of It gets called the anti-West Wing a lot, it’s really Parks and Rec’s dark mirror. I mean, tToI Series 3 pretty definitively answers the question: “What would happen if you dropped Leslie Knope into the actual...
The Weird, Frictionless Politics Of 'Parks And... →
Here is a thing I wrote! I really like Parks & Rec, but the depiction of politics changed drastically on the show between the first season (which people didn’t like, for reasons that still escape me) to the current season, and in kinda troubling ways, I guess. I still really enjoy it, but people saying it’s soooooo much better now makes me wonder things about politics in America...

Who would’ve thought Beyonce was set to become this month’s Controversial Artist Who Sparks a Million Think Pieces? Hopefully the end result is Tyler the Creator goes into a jealous rage, and switches to writing pop-feminist Girl Power anthems so he can get his spot back.
How quickly we forget.

G.O.P. on the Defensive as Voters Resist Medicare... →
Can’t remember if this was something I posted here or something I wrote that I never got published, but the message I got from the midterms was that voters basically don’t know what they want, and the volitility of majority-change in recent elections reflects that. Basically, we distrust the government so much that we keep “throwing the bums out” only to realize that the...

Parents Keep Child's Gender Secret →
teenageart:
When I first read this, I was like “Wacky, and sort of interesting. Whatevs.” But people have GONE NUTS about this. Some readers are arguing the child should be taken away from the parents. Even my brother called it “child abuse.” But I don’t really understand the problem. The main argument seems to be that people know this kid is going to be eventually treated like shit by older...
